The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, on Thursday , September 30th, 2021, presented two bills to the State Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa for his assent.

The two bills are the Delta State Urban and Regional Planning Bill, 2020 and Delta State Livestock Breeding, Rearing and Marketing Regulation Bill, 2021.

The Speaker said at the presentation of the two bills in Government House, Asaba that ; “Your Excellency Sir, we are before you today to present the Delta State Urban and Regional Planning Bill, 2020; and the Delta State Livestock Breeding, Rearing and Marketing Regulation Bill, 2021 passed by the House for your assent. Sir, I know these are two very important Bills dear to your heart because when assented to they will bring about development and ensure the safety of lives and properties in the State”.

“Your Excellency Sir, please permit me to briefly highlight the primary objective for each of the Bills and mention the dates of the various stages for the First, Second and Third Reading/Passage the Bills went through on the floor of the House, in fulfillment of the requirements of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as altered)”, he said.

Rt Hon Oborevwori said that Delta State Urban and Regional Planning Bill, 2020 is aimed at the development of the State via a proper mechanism for Urban and Regional Planning to ensure compliance with laid down laws.

According to him, the first reading of the bill was 30th April, 2020, second reading 15th July, 2020 and third reading and passed 18th August, 2021.

On the Delta State Livestock Breeding, Rearing and Marketing Regulation Bill, 2021, the Speaker said that ; “Your Excellency Sir, this Bill is in fulfillment of one of the agreements reached at the Southern Governors’ meeting held here in Asaba, the State Capital. I believe that by virtue of this Bill the Delta State Government under your very able leadership has demonstrated its resolve to protect the people of our dear State from the menace of clashes between herders and farmers. I also believe that this Bill will boost food production in the State as farmers can now go about their businesses without fear of anyone grazing on their crops.

He disclosed that the first reading of the bill was taken 13th July, 2021, second reading 14th July, 2021 and third reading and passed 21st September, 2021.

“At this juncture, may I with your kind permission invite the Clerk of the House to present the Delta State Urban and Regional Planning Bill, 2020; and the Delta State Livestock Breeding, Rearing and Marketing Regulation Bill, 2021 for your Assent. Thank you for the kind audience”, the Speaker said.
