Delta Speaker declares 2-day workshop open for Councillors

Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, Friday, declared a 2-day capacity building workshop opened for Councillors of Ika South Local Government Legislative House at Abraka, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the State.

Declaring the workshop open, Rt Hon Oborevwori encouraged them to take the Workshop seriously and pay attention and told them that the task ahead was enormous.

Saying their constituents rely on them for effective representation at the Council, he said; “therefore, in order for you to appreciate the weight of your mandate, this workshop is not only timely but also very important.This is because, legislative practice and procedures are usually very complex and technical in nature

“Consequently, this workshop will not only expose you to the complexities of lawmaking but also deepen your understanding of the tenets of democracy. Against this background, you should consider yourselves lucky for being part of this programme”, he said.

While saying that they should consider themselves lucky for being part of the programme, the Speaker said that; “I have been briefed that most of the resource persons are from the Assembly. I have no doubt in their abilities to deliver on the assignment”.

“It is my hope that at end of this training, you will have been sufficiently equipped to exercise your constitutional duties”, he stated.

The Speaker lauded Hon Festus Chukwuyem Okoh, the Majority Whip of the Delta State House of Assembly and member representing Ika South State Constituency in the House for putting the Capacity Building Workshop together for the Councillors.

“As a Member of the House, he is hardworking, resourceful, reliable and loyal to constituted authority. He has a high drive for competence and quality, hence, he has put together this Workshop to sharpen your legislative skills as councillors”, he said.
