The Delta State House of Assembly has passed a vote of confidence on the State Governor, Senator(Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa for his massive infrastructural development strides in the State.
The confidence vote followed a motion brought under Matters of Urgent Public Importance by member representing Ughelli North Constituency One, Hon. Samuel Mariere and seconded by the Majority Leader, Hon. Tim Owhefere, during Wednesday’s plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.
Arguing on the motion, Hon Mariere highlighted several landmark projects embarked upon by Governor Okowa, stressing that no part of the state was left out in the development strides.
He stated that the flood problem along Okpanam road has been drastically reduced when observed from the last down pour in Asaba, pointing out that the Asaba International Airport which has gulped Billions of Naira without tangible output is today in good shape and set to start experiencing full operations.
According to him, from Patani to Oghara, Ughelli to Asaba, the State has been turned to a massive construction site, saying “The blind are seeing and the deaf hearing the performance of the SMART Governor. If you go round the State, during the governor’s town hall meeting, you will only realise that there is no place he has not touched”.
“The development strides of his Excellency will be better appreciated if we realise the economic State of the country. I won’t be able to stop if I am allowed to fully recount the development strides of the governor. I urge my colleagues to support this motion. The governor is doing well hence we must give him kudos.” Mariere argued.
In his contribution, the Majority Leader, Hon. Tim Owhefere commended the sponsor of the motion adding that the motion could not have be moved at a better time as the tempo of work done by the Governor has drastically skyrocketed.
He said, “It is a good thing that in this House, are persons from different constituencies. I speak for Isoko North Constituency. If I have not seen development in Isoko North, I will not be speaking. The governor took Ofagbe Technical College without being prompted. As I speak, he has also directed that the internal roads of the school be tarred. How he manages to do things leaves me baffled. Governor Okowa is working and I employ my colleagues to join positively.”
Member representing Oshimili South, and former Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Peter Onwusanya, reeled out completed and ongoing projects in his Constituency which houses the capital city of Delta State, stressing that Deltans should do themselves good by voting Governor Okowa for a second term.
Others who spoke included Hon. Daniel Mayuku, Hon. Rueben Izeze, Hon. Pat Ajudua, Hon. Orezi Esievo, Johnson Erijo, Dennis Omovie, Alphonsus Ojo, the Deputy Majority Leader, Hon Oboro Preyor, Emeka Nwaobi, Anthony Elekeokuri, Kennedy Daubry, Tonye Timi and Hon. Erhitake Ibori-Suonu.
They described the Governor as a very capable leader whose experience has come to play in his viable leadership style.
The Lawmakers commended him for being a Governor who believes in continuity of government in view of the fact that he has vested interest in completing all inherited uncompleted projects in the State.
They also stressed that the debt burden of the State has been cut and non payment of workers salary has become a thing of the past, adding that only a confident and accomplished leader can interface with his people through a town hall meeting.
The Motion, when put into a voice vote by Speaker Oborevwori was unanimously adopted by the House with a call on Deltans to continue to support the Senator Ifeanyi Okowa led administration.
