- Implore PDP to present Speaker
The Urhobos in the United Kingdom, have again renewed their support for the governorship aspiration of the Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly and National Deputy Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of state legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, in the 2023 general elections.
Consequently, they urged the pressure group, Delta Central DC-23 to unanimously adopt and reccomend him to the the state Governor, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the choice of the senatorial district in the governorship election in the State.
As a follow up, they also implored the PDP to present Rt Hon Oborevwori as its candidate for the election in the state.
The Urhobos in the UK in a statement issued at the end of its 2022 maiden meeting, yesterday acknowledged the growing popularity and acceptability of Rt Hon Oborevwori’s candidature in the three senatorial districts in the state.
The statement under the aegis of Urhobo Diaspora for Good Governance Initiative (UDGGI), was signed by the group’s Director-General, Mr. John Ewhubare Siakpere (JP) and Secretary-General, Dr. Richard Stephen.
The group noted with unassailable confidence that Rt Hon Oborevwori, would convincingly defeat the All Progress Congress (APC) candidate and deliver the state to PDP.
They acknowledged the brilliant and colourful outing of Rt Hon Oborevwori’s team at the recently held end of the year gathering of Delta Political Vanguard (DPV) in Agbor and the mega rally of PDP in Asaba, adding that, “it has become obvious that the Speaker, as leading aspirant, is steadily cruising to victory.”
The UDGGI lauded the DC-23 headed by PDP’s Deputy National Organising Secretary, Chief Ighoyota Amori, for picking Rt Hon Oborevwori, among the five aspirants, for the governorship election.
To this end, the group maintained that Rt Hon Oborevwori was the best of the five aspirants and urged DC-23 to sum up courage and recomend him to Governor Okowa and PDP as the choice of the Delta Central for the governorship election.
“We urge the DC-23 to waste no further time to endorse and present Rt Hon Oborevwori, the man, whom the cap fits, to Governor Okowa and leadership and supporters of PDP at all levels, as the unequivocal choice of Delta Central for the governorship election in 2023.” “In the same vein, we also implored PDP leaders and supporters to queue behind and support Rt Hon Oborevwori as a suitable successor to our amiable Governor Ifeanyi Okowa. Rt Hon Oborevwori has the potentials, charisma and leadership acumen to continue with the vision and development strides of the incumbent Chief Executive of the state,” the statement added.
