ASSEMBLY RECEIVES NAMES OF BOARDS MEMBERS FROM GOVERNOR OKOWA

***  OBOREVWORI CONSITITUTES  AD HOC COMMITTEE TO REVIEW DELTA STATE CUSTOMARY COURT LAW 

***  COMMITTEE SUBMITS REPORT ON BILL FOR A LAW TO PROVIDE FOR THE MANAGEMENT OF FUNDS ACCRUING TO DELTA STATE JUDICIARY FROM CONSOLIDATED REVENUE FUND 

The State Governor, Senator Dr  Senator Ifeanyi Okowa has reconstituted the boards of Delta State Rural Development Agency and the Delta State Waste Management Board. 

The Speaker,  Rt Hon    Sheriff Oborevwori who presided over Tuesday’s plenary read two separate letters containing the names of the nominees .

According to the letter from the governor, the nominees for appointment into the Board of the Rural Development Agency are Chief Solomon Areyinka as Chairman, Vero Obuh, Dame Roseline Akoyere, Mr Chukwueku Mathias, Elder Ben Nwadiashi and Dio Susan as members .

The Governor said the reconstitution of the Board of the Delta State Rural Development Agency followed the expiration of the tenure of the board and in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section four sub section three of the Delta State Rural Development Agency law 2001.

The Majority Leader,  Hon  Tim Owhefere moved a motion for the House to receive the letter for further consideration and was seconded by Hon Asupa Forteta. 

The nominees for appointment into the Delta State Waste Management Board are Hon Emmanuel Bazim Chinye as Chairman, Mr Sylvester Oromoni, Mr Jude Onyia and Daniel Ighedo as members 

According to the Governor, the reconstitution of the Delta State Waste Management Board followed the expiration of the tenure of the board and in exercise of the powers conferred on him by Section four sub section two of the Delta State Waste Management Board law 2004.

The Majority Leader, Hon Tim Owhefere moved a motion for the House to receive the letter for further consideration and was seconded by Hon  Pullah Ekpotuayerin. 

Thereafter the Speaker, Rt Hon  Sheriff Oborevwori directed the nominees of both boards to submit thirty five copies of their curriculum vitae to the office of the Clerk on or before Wednesday September 4, 2019 and should appear for screening on Thursday September 5, 2019.

Meanwhile,the Speaker,  Rt Hon Sheriff  Oborevwori has constituted a three man ad hoc Committee to review the Delta State Customary Court Law 2019.

The members of the ad-hoc Committee are the Majority Leader, Hon Tim Owhefere as Chairman, Hon Pat Ajudua and Hon  Charles Oniyere as members. 

The term of reference for the ad-hoc committee is to look into the Repealed Customary Court Law cap 25 laws of Delta State 2016, the Customary Court Bill, 2017,the Report of the House Committee on Rules, Business,Legal and Judicial Matters on the Customary Courts Bill 2017 and the Customary Court Bill passed and assented to on May 16,2019.

The ad-hoc committee is expected to submit it’s report in two weeks. 

Also at plenary, the House received the report of the ad-hoc Committee on the bill  for a law to provide for the management of Funds accruing to the Delta State Judiciary from the Consolidated Revenue Fund of Delta State to ensure accountability, transparency, effective and efficient utilisation of fund and for other matters connected there with.

Presenting the report, Hon Pat Ajudua said the Committee scrutinised the proposed provisions of the bill clause by clause. 

She said all opinions and concerns expressed by stakeholders during the public hearing were  also considered in making amendments submitted in the committee’s final draft. 

Hon  Ajudua who is also the Chief Whip of the House expressed hope that the report would assist the House in making and providing the required legal framework for the effective and efficient management of the funds accruing to the Delta State Judiciary from the consolidated revenue fund of Deltans State. 

Thereafter, the Majority Leader, Hon Tim    Owhefere moved for the House to receive the report for further consideration and was seconded by Hon  Emomotimi Guwor and adopted. 

The consideration of the report at the Committee of the Whole has been slated for Thursday September 5, 2019
